Detectives so far have obtained no trace of the man who murdered the caretaker Whitfield and stole £4,500 worth of diamonds from Caris Brothers on . Tuesday night, but their theory is that the man who telephoned the police saying he heard a crash of glass was the actual murderer or an accomplice who probably had no intention of Idling Whitfield, although he was convinced that he had gravely injured him. The police have drawn a not right round the State, aiming to prevent the assailant from getting out either by rail or sea, or disposing of the plunder..
