The Prime Minister (Mr Lyons) today stated that the Commonwealth Government has taken steps to oppose the reception of the petition in England for secession by Western Australia, basing its action on section 128 of the Constitution, which decreed that any amendment to the Constitution must be by legislation and referendum in Australia.
