FRUITS OF THE EARTH
DESTRUCTION AND RESTRICTION OF PRODUCTION CONDEMNED BY BISHOPS Press Association—By Telegraph Copyright LONDON, January 22. (Received January 23, at 10 a.m.) “The wilful destruction of the fruits of the earth and the prevention or restriction of production in the face of need, are virtually acts of sacrilege, because God’s gifts arc flung back in
His face.” This striking declaration appears in a report on unemployment drawn up by the Bishop of London (Dr Ingram) and seven other bishops. The report is being presented at the spring session of the Church Assembly on February 5, at whiejr the Bishop of London will move a resolution condemning the existing financial, industrial, and economic system and demanding that it be replaced by a system more adequately expressing moral and religious principles. The report, which is expected to create a stir in church and political circles, also declares that the church cannot acquiesce in economic arrangements which cause and destitution to the multitudes.
