JAMBOREE A GREAT SUCCESS

INVERCARGILL, January 17
Mr J. R. Kirk, chairman of the J)o----miniou Council of the Boy Scouts’ Association, who was the official representative of the council at the jamboree, said to-day when lie landed from the Mahouo that the gathering at Melbourne had been a wonderful success. The New Zealand contingent, led by Commissioner Cooksey, had been very popular, its attractive camp in Maori stylo being the subject of much favourable comment. Lord Baden-Powell appeared to have made a wonderful recovery after liis illness, and lie took a very live interest in all the activities of the jamboree. The Chief Scout, who was eagerly looking forward to his visit to New Zealand, was received with remarkable enthusiasm everywhere. Mr Kirk was of the opinion that the jamboree would greatly advance the Boy Scout and Girl Guide movements and the principles for which they stood. The attendant expense bad been fully justified. (
