NATIONAL SHOW

The final meeting of the New Zealand National Horticultural Show Committee was held on Wednesday at the office of the Dunedin Horticultural Society. The chairman (Mr David Tanuock) presided over a representative gathering of all sub-coramittees. Mr Bennett, in presenting the report of the Staging Committee, stated that arrangements were well in hand. The provincial displays had all been allocated their respective positions in the main hall, but certain of the smaller competitive classes would also be included in this portion of the building, as the light was far better than in the Concert Chamber. Mr Bennett added that never before bad he seen such keen competition in the interprovincial classes of any New Zealand National Show. The action of iibe sub-committee in inviting Sir Robert Anderson to officiate at the opening ceremony on January 22 was endorsed.

The Mayor (Rev. E. T, Cox) is to forward invitations to the mayors of all towns and centres interested in the show, and also to join in the opening ceremonies by extending a civic welcome to delegates from ad parts of New Zealand attending the conference. Mr Taunock reported having visited Christchurch, Waimate, Timaru, and Oamani, where he had found that in all instances the preparations for despatch of provincial exhibits were well advanced.

Mrs Gerald Fitzgerald, representing the Entertainment Committee, furnished her report. Catering arrangements have been completed, the contract being placed; in the hands of Mr W. Perrin, of the 11.5. A. Dining Rooms. Mr J. L. M ‘lndoe furnished the meeting with details of the publicity work.
