DUNEDIN BEATS ST. CLAIR The third round of the Donald Stuart water polo banner competition, was commenced last night at the St. Clair Club hour at the Municipal Baths, Dunedin A beat St. Clair A after a scrambling game by eight goals. to four. There was not the difference territorially between the teams that the scores showed, but Dunedin had better combination, and handled the ball more surely, St, Clair’s shooting in particular being weak. The teams were:—Dunedin A—P. W. Harkess, D. Newall, J. D. O’Drisooll, B. Kerr, J. Barry, C. Elliott, W. M‘Donnell. St. Clair A—-A. Tyrie, V. Aldous, W. Wood, C. Durand, J. Swan, O. Wood, and A. Harrod. Dunedin started off by scoring two goals in quick succession, Elliott finding the net on each occasion. Dunedin 2. St. Clair 0. Swan was opening up play for St. Clair, but there was no finish to the movements, and after swimming up with the - ball Newall scored. In the closing stages of the spell St. Clair attacked strongly, and Swan fbund the net, halfrtime being sounded with the score: Dunedin 3, St. Clair 1. St. Clair launched an offensive on, resuming, and Swan flicked the ball into the goal after a fight hit of play. Dunedin 3, St. Clair 2. This livened Dunedin up a little, and Barry was the' next to goal. Dunedin 4, St. Clair 2. Swan was often in the picture, and W, Wood was also conspicuous, though rather slow in picking up the ball. Twice in Succession Swan bringing his tally to four. Dunedin 4, St. Clair 4. At this stage play was being, well contested, but a poor clearance by Harrod enabled Barry to score, and from then on Dunedin held the upper hand. Elliott, Barry, and Kerr scoring in succession. The game ended:— Dunedin A 8 St. Clair A 4 Mr D. T. Woodfield was the referee. In the B grade Kiwi B mcets_ St. Clair B and Dunedin C plays St. Kilda to-night.
