OTAGO CLUB Dft R«&S WINS CHAMPIONSHIP The Otago Club’s championship was brought to a conclusion with the playing of the final between K. Ross and till. Laidlaw. In the morning, round Koss started off steadily to finish tfie first nine holes in 37 to his opponent s 40, leaving him 2 up on the conclusion of the first half. The second half, with the exception of the eleventh hole, which was won-by Boss, r es ßtedma succession of halves. Ross had taken 73 to Laidlaw’s 77 in the morning round, and Ross was 3 up. The second round saw both plajeis out in 35. Ross won the second, making him 4 up at this stage, but Laidlaw immediately won the third, bringing i back to 3 up. The fourth hole was halved in 2’s. Laidlaw won the fifth in 4 to 6, and was then 2 down.. R°ss holed his mashic shot from about 60yds at “ The Glen ” for a 2, and followed this up by holing his putt at the tentfi for 2, making him 4 up. Laidlaw won “ Tipperary” with sto 6 and then followed two halved holes' Laidlaw missed his tee shot at Roys 'and took 5 to this hole. Ross was short, but placed his approach nicely, and, holing his putt for a 3, won this hole, making him dormie 4. The match finished on,the fifteenth green, where both players took 5. The scores were as follows: — First Round. —Ross 4,5, 3,3, 5, , 5,4, 4,3, 4,4, 5,4, 4,4, 4, 4,-73 Laidlaw—4, 4,4, 5,5, 4,5, 4,5, 3,5, 4. 5,4, 4,4, 4, 4 77. „ - . Second Half.— Ross, 5,4, 5, , , , 4 4 22, 6,4, 5,3, 5; Laidlaw—s, &, 3’ 2! 4’, 4,4, 4,4 j 4,6, 4,5, 5, 5. ’The match finished m Ross s favour by 4 up and 3 to play. .Ross has now secured his thirteenth win m the dub championship, commencing exactly twenty years ago with his nr|| w ™ |n 1014 He also won in 1915, I»4U, ivm, 1924. 1925, 1926, 1927, 1828, 1929, 1931, an it'has’not fallen to the lot of any member of the club to beat Ross in the final, as during the twenty years he has been beaten only on three occasions. Laidlaw did not play as steadily m the club championship matches as he did during the Easter tournament, when he. beat Ross over eighteen holesl in the semi-final and went on to win the final of the championship of Otago very deC ' S The”semi-final matches of the Balinacewen Cup were also played. P. S. Anderson had the better of the luck, and managed to beat W. D. Taylor 3 and 2. In the other match it looked as if R.,D. B. Paterson would he the winner when he was 3 up and 4 to play, but J. N. -Lemon played doggedly to finish all square at the eighteenth and win the nineteenth and the match. The match between P. S. Anderson and J. N. Lemon will be played on Tuesday evening.
