VICTORIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS aUIST BEATS PERRY . • MELBOURNE, December 14. ■ The Victorian -championships wer* continued to-day on the Kooyong courts, which were played on for the first time sn ce the floods. Only two courts, however, were used, but they were in remarkably good condition, though tricky owing to patches of silt. Though Miss Hartigan did not start too well against Mrs Hopman, she recovered confidence later,' forcing the pace and winning, notwithstanding many errors. \ : Miss Round did not have things her own way against Miss Dearman. Although she won straight sets, she took each with only a mimimum margin. Her stroking was not as fluent as in the earlier matches, and she lost points through several double faults. Quist .played tennis worthy of a master of the game. He had perfect control over every stroke, and forced Perry into more errors than he has made in any other match in Australia. The result was the greatest tennis surprise of the year. Crawford established a lead early, and was never greatly troubled by Stefani," Crawford’s driving and serving ■were superb.
