PIPES AND PIPERS
A community “ all Scots programme is announced to be held at the Regent Theatre at 12.15 p.m. next Wednesday, in aid of the Scottish queen carnival. A perfervid Scot writes thus: Dear friens an’ brithers, pipers a’, I’d like tae say a word or twa Tae praise the pipes an’ pipers braw. Some ca’ them diels, • Bit may they lang be spared tae blaw Strathspeys an’ Reels. The Swords or Fling, Strathspeys or Reel, There's naethin’. made can dae sae wed x When they are played wi : proper zeal An’ perfect beat. Thev mak’ the dancers think they feel Springs at their feet. The piper blaws wi’ arduous sooch; Ye’d think the job was unco tench, As young an’ auld, wi’ noisy “ hooch ” An’ dizzy whirl, Aye think their speed’s nae fast eneuch At ilka birl. • Trace back tbe Empire’s growth wi’ care. In peace or war the pipes were there Tae cheer the soul, tae dae an’ dare, An’ aye win through. Let’s drink a toast tae ilka player Wi’ mountain dew.
