CROQUET
It is intended to devote some space in each Saturday’s issue to items of interest to croquet players. The secretaries of the various clubs are asked to send in notes to “ Diana ” not later than Wednesday in each week. Correspondence is invited and inquiries as to fine points of the gamo or other matters connected with croquet will bo answered as far as possible. Personal. Mrs J. Glover (Punga Club) has just returned from a holiday visit to Melbourne. While there she was shown great hospitality by Australian croquet players, and had the opportunity ot playing at the Melbourne Club lawns, where some of the test matches will be played. She reports that these lawns are as near perfection as possible, with a thick sole of grass; they are kept well clipped, and are very’ true to play on. Mrs J. Stronnch (Timaru Club) is at present visiting Dunedin. Interclub Matches. Draw for next Tuesday : Senior Grade.—Punga (2) v. Watea (2). at Punga; St. Clair v. Opoho, at St. Clair; Punga (1) v. Junior Grade. —Caversham 4, Watea 5; St. Clair 9. Montecillo ,0; Logan Park 7. Opoho 2. Fern Matches. Result of last Saturday’s play:— * Opoho (1) 5, Watea 1. To-day’s match, Opoho (1) v. Logan Park (1). will conclude the first life. Farewell To Mrs Corbet. Granted a fine day, the function to be held on the Punga Club’s lawns on Monday afternoon should be very enjoyable. Members from all the Dunedin clubs have signified their intention of being present, and there will probably be visitors frqm further afield.. South Island Tournament. This event will commence on January 3; the main lawns used will be those at Logan Park. Entries close with the secretary, Mrs J. M'Donald, Victoria road, St. Clair, on December 24. Mrs M'Donald will algo be the manager. Mrs Rhodes-Williams will represent the New Zealand Council at this tournament. The programme consists of five events in all—an open, a ladies’, and a doubles championship, and handicap singles and doubles.
