MOTOR' SHIP PORT AVAIKATO- , AVith a cargo of sleepers for the New Zealand railways the AVatchlin Shipping Line’s motor ship Port AVaikato arrived, at AA 7 ellington on Friday from Sydney and Port Kembla. For forty-eight hours speed was reduced owing to very bad weather, but the Port AA 7 aikato proved herself an excellent sea boat. She was to leave AA r ellington yesterday. MAMARI LEAVES BALBOA. TESS FROM THE CHATHAMS.” Fine weather both on the outward and inward trips, and while at the islands, was experienced by the Tees, which arrived at Lyttelton early on Saturday morning from the Chatham Islands. Captain A. Anderson stated that it was the first occasion that the Tees, or any other vessel, had worked the islands without, dropping anchor, the vessel being able to lie comfortably at the wharf. The Tees brought two passengers, Miss M‘Kay. and Mr S. W. J. Hunt, and a full cargo of sheep, wool, .and cheese. The vessel sailed yesterday afternoon on the return trip, which will be the last until next month. \ EXCELLENT CRANE PERFORMANCE. ' An excellent performance of the Lyttelton Harbour Board’s four bulk cargo cranes at- the Gladstone Pier was reported by Mr E. J. Howard, ALP., chairman of the ■ Lyttelton Harbour Board, at a recent meeting of the board. The s.s. Dalcross arrived at 7.25 a.m. on November 22, and sailed again the same day at 9.30 p.m., .after discharging 2.920 tons of phosphate, he said. Of the 2,920 tons, the board’s v pranes landed 2,504 tons. The total working time for the four cranes was 33 hours, or an average of seventy-six tons a crane an hour, at a cost to the ship of £37 3s lOd, or 3.56 d Ji ton of phosphate landed. “I feel sure you will agree that the work done is satisfactory evidence of the efficiency of the cranes and of our crane drivers,” he said. > HAURAKI TO-MORROAV. The Union Company advises that the Haulaki is due to-morrow from the Pacific Coast via ports.' She is to sail on Thursday morning for Melbourne, Sydney, Apia, Fiji, and A 7 ancouver. Canadian' victor due. Messrs H. L. Tapjey and Co. advise that the Canadian Victor is due from Melbourne this evening. The Union Company advises that the Waikouaiti, from Sydney, was scheduled to leave Melbourne to-day for Bluff and Dunedin.
