COURSING

NATIONAL ASSOCIATION At a meeting of the National Coursing Association last night Mr B. &. Irwin presided over a large attendance of delegates. _ Letters were received from Huntly and Dannevirke asking for particulars in connection with coursing, as in both towns they were desirous of forming clubs. It was decided that all clubs.be asked to forward to the association secretary the proposed dates on which they wished to hold their respective meetings. A Dates Committee was then formed, consisting of Messrs E. G. Price, W. Penman, and W. Henderson, to allot the dates in order to avoid the clashing of meetings. Mr Irwin reported on the deputation consisting of Messrs H. F. Payton, E. G. Price, and himself which met the Railways Board during its stay in Dunedin to see if some concession could not bo given in connection with greyhounds travelling to and from coursing meetings. The Secretary presented a statement of receipts and expenditure, which showed the association to have a good credit balance. Mr J. Gold (delegate for the Balclutha Chib) spoke oh the rules of slipping as contained in the code of rules of the National Coursing Association of New Zealand, which in his opinion were very unfair. At the present time a good dog was sometimes penalised. Ho produced a copy of the rules of the National Coursing Club of Victoria, and read from it its ruling, which in his opinion was a much fairer one. Jn this connection ho was strongly supported by the Dunedin Club’s secretary, who is the delegate representing the Nightcaps Club. The secretary was instructed to procure from the Now South Wales Association a copy of its rules.
