GOVERNMENT GIFT
PRESENTATION TO ROYAL VISITOR INKSTAND WITH M9DEL [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, December 11. A feature of the ceremony of laying the foundation of the Wellington railway station will be the presentation to the Duke of Gloucester by Mr Forbes 'on behalf of the Government of a beautifully executed inkstand designed by Mr L. Mitchell, of Wellington. It has a greenstone top inset into the < stand and a New Zealand: honeysuckle on the back surmounted by the Royal Arms. It is a complete l nine-carat gold model to scale of a K railway engine. In front of the stand is a gold inkwell. . The stand will be contained in a casket of New Zealand woods. The woodwork was executed by Mr H. C. Osborne, a disabled soldier, and mechanical assistance was given by Mr C. Mitchell. of the Railway Workshops. The model of the engine and all the gold work were carried out by. Mayer and Kean Ltd., of Wellington.
