INTERMEDIATE SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Otago intermediate and junior championships will be decided, at a carnival to-morrow night. In . the intermediate boys’ division the competitors include S. W. Jarvis, J. Barry, W. Stewart, J. Clulee, and N. Williams, while in the intermediate girls’ division the competitors will include such well-known swimmers as Misses Gwen Rix, Winnie NeWall, Nancy Olds, D. Turnbull, Maureen Shanalian, Olive Buckland, and R. Duncan. The breaststroke event particularly should result in very keen competition, and this applies also to the junior boys’ section, in which the competitors at this style include the New Zealand champion, Michael Shanahan, G. Chambers -(a promising newcomer to competition), Hoy Geddes, W. W. Buckland, C. M'Gregor (the free-style champion), and R. Knewstubb. M'Gregor should win the free-style events, but,will not have things all Ids own way. ; The junior girls’ races, will be contested by the present free-style champion, Miss R. Jarvis (who put up such splendid performances at the Waitaki Girls’ High School sports .and must be very bard to beat in championship competition tin’s year). ■.■ The four-a-side relay championship will be decided at this meeting.
