MAORI HILL KINDERGARTEN
ANNUAL BREAK-UP CEREMONY Interesting evidence of the fine type of work being done by the kindergarten teachers of Dunedin was seen yesterday afternoon by the large number of pareuts and well-wishers who attended' the annual breaking-up ceremony of EuraIti Kindergarten, Maori,Hill. Yesterday was “Fathers and Mothers’ Day,”/ the little pupils, under their teacher,Miss Grace Stewart, presenting for their, parents’ benefit an excellent entertainment which proved conclusively how- natural talent can be guided and developed even during the tender, years. The Presbyterian Sunday School hall, the scene of the function, was tastefully decorated for the occasion, one of the main features being an attractive Christmas tree, on which were liung the presents - that the little ones > handed to their parents in the course of the afternoon. The pupils’ turn to receive gifts came this afternoon, when a party and prize-giving ceremony wer® held. ■ ’ Prior to the concert yesterday the adult visitors had an opportunity of ascertaining how the first steps-in education are taken, a table and portion of the wall being taken up .with specimens of the children’s work,' including drawings, paintings, modellings with wood and plasticene,, and paper cuttings. Such work is, of course, a real joy to the child to perform, and therefore no strain is imposed by the kindergarten syllabus. Among those present were Miss Dutton (president of the Kindergarten Association) and Miss Kelsey, whose good work in connection with institutions of. this kind -ia too well known to require recapitulation. After addressing the little pupils in appropriate fashion the Rev. A. G. AY. Standage congratulated Miss Stewart on the happy results of her work, and said he knew- how much it was appreciated by the parents. A pleasing part of the function was the presentation by the pupils of a, bouquet each to Mrs Standage, Miss Dutton, and Miss Kelsey. Miss Stewart’s concert programmer was greatly assisted by Miss M’Ara, the teacher of the Roslyn Kindergarten, ivho played the necessary accompaniments. ■ , ' /
