The Hon. J. A. Hanan, pro-Chance!' lor of the University of New Zealand, left to-day for Wellington to attend the meeting of the Rhodes Scholarship Selection Committee. Mrs Wilfred Andrews went to Palmerston by the 11.35 train to-day, intending to spend a day in her native township before returning to Wellington. Mr A. H. Allen is on his way to Wellington for a meeting of the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce. Mr J. E. Nichol, Collector of Customs at Napier, has received notice of his appointment to a similar position in Dunedin, replacing Mr B. Anderson, who retires on superannuation. Mr Charles Todd left by the first express this morning for Wellington after a business trip to Dunedin. Sir Fabian Ware, chairman of the Imperial War Graves Commission, will be in New Zealand from December 4 to December 21. He will be accompanied by*Lady Ware, and will giva illustrated lectures in Auckland. Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin. Mr J. A ' Scott, M.A., who has been president of the New Zealand and Australian Chiropractors’ Association practically since its foundation fourteen years ago, recently resigned from the position with a view to retiring from active official duty, and the association has marked the occasion of his retirement by presenting him with a cheque and an illuminated address. An effort will be made by the association to retain Mr Scott’s services in an advisory capacity. Mr Scott will leave next month on a holiday visit to Australia. Mr .J. W. Becker, manager of the T. and G., has returned from a visit to Melbourne. ' During the sheep sale at Burnside to-day a motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr Howard W. Bailey, who had been one of the most popular auctioneers in the yards during his term with Messrs Stronach, Morris, and Co. Ltd. References were made to the regrettable death of Mr Bailey by Mr J. Henderson (president -of the Master Butchers’ Association), Mr S. Cupples (chairman of the Auctioneers’ Association), and Mr R. T. Kirk (president of the A. and P. Society), who also spoke on behalf of the farmers and graziers. The Rev. R. L. Fursdon, of the Shackleton Road Baptist Church, Auckland, has accepted a call to the pastorate of the Caversham Baptist Church, and will commence his ministry at Caversham on March 1 next. A Press Association cable message from Fremantle states that the passengers by the Drama, which arrived there yesterday, include the Italian latvn tennis player, Stefani, and Bishop Whyte, of Dunedin, who is returning from a visit to Rome. A Press Association cable message from Suva states that the wedding took place on Monday evening of Miss Molly Barker, daughter of the Mayor of Suva, to Mr Frank Ryan, formerly of Timaru. .
