Mr Walter Runciman (President of the Board of Trade), winding up the debate on Labour’s amendment to the Address-in-Reply, defended the Government chiefly on the ground that nearly 1,000,000 more people were employed now than three years ago, which was far mors than Socialism could have achieved. The amendment was defeated by 400 votes to 48.
