[From Our Corresponded*.) AIAKARORA ROAD. Tlie Alakarora road will be open for traffic before the Christmas holiday season, it now passes to the control of the Highways Board, and this fact will, no doubt, be responsible for it being satisfactorily maintained in future. It is over a year since the road was open to traffic. BOWLING. In Saturday’s bowling competition fixtures Cromwell players travelled to three centres, two rinks going to Miller’s Flat and Alexandra, and three to Pembroke. The rinks at Pembroke won, but those at the other centres both lost. At Wanaka results were: —L. Jolly 22, R. Wilson 21; Dr Austin 17, M. Thompson 17; H. Wilkinson 16, J. Perrow 14. , In the Centre Shield competition on November 17 four rinks—two sections—from Cromwell, travelled to Clyde. The Clyde team won on the totals in each section, and scored 12 points. Results (Clyde rinks given first) were Larking, Ross, H. Stevens, W. K. George (s.) 17, Hosking, Perry, Cahill, Wilkinson (s.) 17. Orr, AFLeod, Holt, Davidson (s.) 22, Jclley, Parcel!, G. Stumbles, jun., L. Jolly (s.) 14.' Harlow, 10. George, Edmonds, Miller (s.) 24, Vient, Thomas, Smart, Er. Jolly (S.) 12. Annan, S. Stevens, Mollison, Paulin (s.) 14, Gibb, M'Donald, Smith, Austin (s.) 20. Totals: Clyde 39-31. 38-32. RIFLE CLUB. At the weekly shoot ten shots were fired at 300yds, 500yds, and 600yds, the third competition to count for Mr A. Johnson’s trophy. The winner on the three shoots was Jas. C. Parcell, with an aggregate of 404. W. Vicht was second with 403, others being E. Lawrence 389, W.. Webb 388, G. Crabbo 387, J. Jocelyn 384, A. Bell 374. At the final shoot a “ fish-tail ” wind made conditions difficult, the top score, including handicap, being registered by E. Lawrence, who takes the club trophv. Scores were as follows: K. Johnson, of Cromwell, has been advised that at the October meeting of the Royal Society of Arts, London, he was elected a fellow. _ The honour conferred on Air Johnson is no doubt a recognition of his photography, a number of specimens of which be has successfully Shown at several exhibitions in Knglar. Air and Airs George Wish art, oi Cromwell, returned on Friday from their trip to the Alelbourne centenary celebrations after having spent an enjoyable five weeks in both Sydney and Alelbourne.
