OAMARU SHOW

PEOPLE'S DAY The second day of the North Otago Agricultural and Pastoral Association’s annual summer show attracted a large gathering to the Show Grounds, where a most interesting time was spent in viewing and inspecting the many novelties and attractions that are always featured at these shows. The weather was delightful, and from the standpoint of keen public interest the show was one of the most successful held in Oamaru for many years. The judging of breeding and working draught horses was carried out in the morning, and the chief attraction in the afternoon was the parade of prize-winning stock. The various jumping and pony events were also watched with interest. During the afternoon the Regimental Band provided a programme of music which was much appreciated. • DRAUGHT HORSES. The entries in this section were greatly below last year’s record, and consequently bettor exhibitions, particularly in the Clydesdales, have been seen on the Showgrounds. There were only two aged stallions, the first prize going; to Mr John Young’s (AlTanton) Center tyre Splendour. Second to him was Mr G. P. Johnston’s (Alma) Sanguine. The most outstanding sire on the ground was Mr Johnston’s Dunmore Superb, the imported colt by, Dunmore Supreme out of Dunmore Daisy, and thoroughly deserved his championship. Ho should add many more to his list in the future. Mr P. W. Shacklock’s Glen Royal Desire, by the Fairlie sire, Desire, out of Bloom 111., was reserve champion entire. Other prize-winners in the male section were Messrs W. M. Cooper, Brown Bros., W. A. C. Allan, and J. Sansom. The champion female went to Mrs G. J. Thompson’s brood mare, ■ Crighton Queen. There were four entries in this _ section,” and all were magnificent animals, and the judge had some difficulty in picking the winner. The reserve _ champion was found in the same class in Brown Bros.’ Aorere Lady, sired by_ Brunstanc Duplicate out of Lady Kitchener. Mr J. Reid’s Rose was the best of the three-year-old fillies, and Mr C. T. M'Callum won the two-year-old class with his Craigadour , filly, Flowering Cherry. Messrs Brown Bros, were second, and Mr Shacklock third. The yearling fillies constituted a good section. Mr G._J. Thompson secured first with Crighton Choice Queen. Messrs Brown Bros.’ Aorere Rose was second, and Mr J. Tisdall’s Roseberry Queen was third. The best yearling or two-year-old on the ground was Mr M'Callum’s Flowering Cherry. Other prize-winners were Messrs J. Johnston, S. M'Gorkin, and E. Butt. _ Messrs Brown Bros.’ were prominent in the female group classes, and showed some very excellent animals. In the working draughts classes Mr J. Reid, with his string of geldings, took off all the awards. DOG TRIALS. Good entries were again received in this section, and the performances of some of the dogs were of a very high standard. Mr W. R. Macaulay’s Scot secured first place with 46 points. The dog took the sheep through the hurdles in a good line, the sheep being grouped well, and continued in splendid line to the first poles, tho animals going through on the first attempt, ■, The line was maintained to the yards, the dog firm yarding in good position. Time, 3min. 19sec. The second placed dog was Mr M, A. Matheson’s Glen. The dog had the sheep well bunched at tho first hurdles, but missed tho first poles at thd first attempt. He continued, however, to keep a good grip of the sheep, and yarded in fine style at the first attempt.
