RADIO TESTS AT TAIERI AERODROME Interesting experiments with ultrashort wave equipment are being carried out at the Taieri aerodrome with the object of ultimately providing each plane with a: transmitting and receiving, set capablfe-’6f communicating With, ant! receiving messages from,' a station fit the ’drome. Experienced wireless enthusiasts are working in co-operation with the Otago. Aero Club in the matter, and the preliminary tests on five metres have been quite Successful. Work on such short wave lengths, however,, is confined to visual range, so that the most satisfactory frequency for maintaining communication between, say, a plane flying from Timaru and Dunedin, has yet to be discovered., Further tests Avill.be carried out from time to time, and it is hoped to attain the' desired success after every avenue of possibility has been exploited. In this method of communication between the air and the ground the Otago Aero Club is the pioneer, and is receiving support from several members, who are anxious that it should be ahead of other clubs, which might be stirred to action, in proving the practicability of the scheme.
