THE STDRMY SAAR ECONOMIC DIFFICULTIES Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. GENEVA, November 16. (Received November 17, at 9.15 a.m.) “ The economic situation in the Saar is daily becoming worse,” says a petition .from the Saar Chamber of Commerce submitted at Geneva by Mr Gr. G. Knox. The petition emphasises that grave difficulties are being experienced in French and German clearing arrangements. Many French firms have refused to grant further credit to their Saar customers. The Governing Commission’s accompanving Note states that it has made every effort to retain foreign confidence in the Saar, and adds: “ A dangerous situation can be averted only if foreign investors can be assured of stable government in the territory.” GERMAN FRONT LEADERS REQUEST FOR ACTION. SARRBRUCKEN, November 16. (Received November 17, at 11 a.m.) The Governing Commission has asked the supreme tribunal to proceed against Jacob Pirro, Herman RoechKng, Pieter Kiefre;, also Lenacher and Smelzer, five German Front leaders, who signed the recent attack on Mr Knox. ■ .The request lias been. transmitted to the League. The charges are insult, libel, and°false witness. German language papers in the Saar have been ordered to give in a front page display the commissioner’s rebuttal of the attack. LEAGUE COUNCIL TO MEET (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 16. (Received November 17, at 1.30 a.m.) A special meeting of the Council of the League of Nations will open at Geneva on Wednesday to consider the report of the Committee of Three on the arrangements for the Saar plebiscite.
