DEEP CREEK WATER

PROGRESS OF SCHEME COMMITTEES’ REPORT The city engineer’s report on the progress of the work at Deep Creek during the past fortnight sets out in detail the progress made by each of the benching and trenching co-operative parties during the period and the amount still to be done by each party to complete the contract. Corporation labour has been employed on the excavation and placing of reinforcement and concrete for the right abutment of the bridge over Deep Stream. Cattle stops have been completed along the road through M’Donald’s property, and further maintenance work has been done on the road leading from Deep Stream to Deep Creek saddle. Up till November 8 the contractors for the pipes, Messrs Hume Steel Ltd., had despatched from their works 733 pipes and 247 bends and specials. The cartage contractor (Mr J. Butler) had delivered on the site of the works 536 pipes and 37 and specials, the balance being in transit. MAIN EXTENSIdNS. The Water Committee’s report states that authority has been granted the city engineer to proceed with the underuoted extensions to mains:—(a) A 4in main through to Fox street from the 4in main in Cargill road, at •an estimated cost of £255. At present this area is served by a Sin connecting loop from Reid .road through Crowder avenue and back through Joyce avenue, and from'that point by a lin service pipe, (b) A 4in main in Peter street, Cavefsham, to connect with the 9in main in South road and replace the existing 3in main which was laid by the former Borough of Caversham. The estimated cost is £340, of which £204 will bo charged to renewals and £136 to extensions. RESIDENCE AT POWDER CREEK. . Authority has been granted to invite tenders" for the construction of two additional ■ rooms and a bath room to the residence of the attendant at the Powder Creek pumping station, in_ accordance with plans and specifications prepared by the city building inspector.
