CENTENARY GOLF CHAMPIONSHIPS
ENTRIES TOTAL 130 MELBOURNE, November 14. The greatest golf meeting ever staged in the Southern Hemisphere, the centenary championship tournament, will be opened to-morrow. The entries total 130, including eleven United States professionals, five British amateurs, and five New Zealanders (one amateur and four professionals). The total prize money for the professionals is £3,000, with trophies for the amateurs. The winner of the professional section will get £I,OOO. The first three days will be occupied with the open championship stroke play over seventy-two holes. The amateur championship will begin on Monday, and the professipnal on Wednesday. . The American contingent is expected to provide the most interesting golf ever seen in Australia. Sarazen, Kirkwood, Ezer, Thompson, and Smith came independently, while Runyan, Shute, Wood, Diegel, Cooper, and Laffoon constitute the official tcani representing the United States Professional Golfers’ Association. There are five British amateurs —the Hon. Michael Scott, M'Lean, Garnett, Bourn, and Beaumont-Pease.
