EVENING SPORTS MEETING Another successful evening sports meeting was held liy the Otago Centro of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association at the Caledonian Ground last night, but, though the tracks wore in good order, the strong wind from the Bay militated against fast times in the sprint events. Nevertheless, there wore some fine finishes, and the 100yds handicap was contested by no fewer than thirty-three runners, the final being won by J. Hardic, a new member oi the Anglican Club, who gives -promise of developing into a really good sprinter. The half-mile handicap fell to the consistent Caversliam man, G. L. Austin, who has been prominently placed in the middle distance and distance events at all of the evening meetings this season. Austin won the three miles last week, and off 35yds returned the good time of 2min 1 I-osec last night, T. Allen running a good race for second from the 20yds mark. In the long jump handicap. D. M. Stuart registered the only really good effort of the evening, doing 20ft 3fin. Both cycling events drew good fields, and the most successful rider was J. Weir, who obtained a first and a second during the evening. Results : 100 Yards Handicap.—First heat: H. A. Brown (St. K.), 6yds, T: R. M'Lachlan (C.S.), 65yds, 2. Five starters. Won by inches. Five starters. Won by 2yds, Time, 11 l-ssec. Fourth heat: J. S. Shepherd (Ang.), oyds, 1; D. M. Stuart (Ang.), 65 yds, 2. Seven starters. Won by a yard. Time, 11 l-ssec. Fifth heat: T. A. The handicapper brought Hardie back a yard in the final, as ho had not given a list of performances, but, getting away well, Hardie was in front at the half distance, and, despite a strong challenge from Watson, won by half a yard; Brown a yard back third. One-milo Walk Handicap.—C. J. Henry (Pac.), 25yds, 1; H. Litolff (Cav.), 90yds, 2; L. F. Garrie (Cav.), 25yds, 3. Five starters. Litolff showed promise and led for the greater part of the distance, Henry being 2yds behind at the bell. Henry assumed command along the back straight, and went on to win by 20yds, Gerrio 15yds back third. Time, -Train 41 3-sscc.

100 Yards Ladies’ Handicap.—Miss M. Dodds (2Jyds) 1, Miss I. Fogarty (syds) 2, Miss B. Rout (9yds) 3. Seven starters. Won by a foot, a yard between second and third. Time, 13 2-ssec.

880 Yards Handicap.—G. L. Austin (Cav.), ,35yds, 1; T. Allen (Ang.), 20yds, 2; J. H. M'Lnfen (Pac.), 15yds, 3. There was a big field' of twentytwo starters, who were led over the first jap by L. Hebbard (60yds). Entering the second lap, J. Anderson (60yds) moved into second place, and going to the front along the back he was closely followed by Austin, who was striding well and running strongly. Allen lay in fifth position a furlong from home, but made up ground quickly, Anderson retiring about 160yds from home. Austin led into the straight and finished with a good burst to win by syds from Allen, M'Laren a similar distance back third. Time, 2min 1 l-ssec. One-mile Junior Handicap.—R. S. Moody (Ang.), 60yds, 1; H. Lindley (Aug.), 50yds, 2; R. S. Anderson (C.S., scr, t; G. Davie (Ang.), ser, t. Only starters. Sivertsen made the most of his handicap and won by four lengths from Hagerty, the Christchurch man finishing two lengths ahead of Homer. Time. Irnin 5 4-ssec. Second heat: G. Hetherington (45yds) 1, H. Sivertsen (55yds) 2, J. Weir (60yds) 3. Seven starters. Won by a length; two and a-balf lengths between second and third. Time. Iniin 6 l-ssec. Final; J. Weir 1. R. Sivertsen 2, G. Hetherington 3. Wier and Sivertsen led over the first lap, but Weir was in front at the bell, and finishing with a good sprint, won by two lengths, Hetherington one and a-half lengths back third. Time, Imin 5 2-ssec. One and a-half Mile Handicap.— First heat: G. Homer (100yds) 1.. C. Gilchrist (scr) 2. G. Sinclair (scr) 3. Eight started. Homer opened up a very handy gap with two to go, and won by 50yds; a length between second and third. Time. 3min 46 4-ssec. Second heat: J. Weir (180yds) 1, V. Laws (250yds) 2, G.
