PRIVATE VIEW OTAGO ART SOCIETY'S EXHIBITION

liic president and council of the Otago Art Society were “ at home ” on Thursday evening to a very large gathering of members and friends for the private view, which is held before the annual exhibition. The guests on arrival were received by the president (Mr J. MMudoe) and Mrs M'lndoe, the latter wearing a becoming frock of black velvet and carrying a beautiful bouquet of white roses and jonquils. As is usual on the first night, only a cursory survey of the pictures can' be made. The time is pleasantly spent in chatting and comparing notes, and later supper was served in the inner gallery. Hero the tables were beautifully decorated with vases of mixed blooms, the whole effect being most artistic. Mrs P. Leith Ritchie and Miss Lothian were responsible for this and also for the gilt basket of lovely tulips which stood beside Mrs MTndoe as she was receiving the guests, and made a lovely background for her gown.
