ZAMBESI BRIDGE
TRIUMPH OF ENGINEERING FINISHED IN CONTRACT TIME (British Official Wireless.) Press Asiociaticn—By Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, October 31. Tho lower Zambesi bridge, which measures over two miles and a-quarter, and is probably the longest in the world, has just been completed. The bridge was started about three and a-half years ago, and has been finished well within the iieriod of the contract. Tho new bridge, which plays a vital part in the system of railways by which Nyassaland Protectorate is being developed, represents a notable engineering triumph. Numerous difficulties had to be surmounted. The superstructure of the bridge rests on 35 main piers of caisson construction in the bed of the river to a depth of 120 ft.
