SPIES IN GERMANY

DRASTIC TREATMENT SEVERAL CONDEMNED TO DEATH Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. BERLIN, October 31. The news of the death sentences having been passed on spies was tucked away without comment in the corncis of newspapers, though in any other country it would have been the sensation of the week. The People s Court of the Nazis is comparable with the Revolutionary Tribunal, without appeal. The names of the condemned spies are known only to the judges, but one case seems to be that of Frau Vonborg, the wife of a director of wellknown German electrical firms. A. D. Sosnowski, who was accused of selling a secret new type of aeroplane engine to » foreign Power, and two girl employees of the Reichswehr Ministry, Frauleins Vonmatzner and Englebrecht, both from good families, were also found guilty of high treason, but it is not known if they are to be executed. The mother of one of the girls unwittingly gave her daughter away because she was anxious about the • girl’s extravagance and went to the Ministry and inquired what salary ah© was paid. Detectives followed the girl and found her meeting Frau Vonherg and Sosnowski. It is understood that Sosnowski has been exchanged for ft German officer who was caught spying in a foreign capital. Frau Vonberg’s fate has not been announced. Though it has been reported in society circles that the two girl clerks were summarily shot, this has not been confirmed.
