A message from Wilkesbarro, Pennsylvania, states that the sensational ‘‘ American tragedy ” murder case, socalled because it was an exact parallel to the plot in Dreiser’s novel of the same name, ended to-day when the jury decreed death in the electric chair for Robert Edwards, a youthful surveyor, for (lie murder of bis childhood sweetheart, Freda M'Kcchnie. The prosecution accused Edwards of having “ black-jacked ” and drowned the girl because she stood in the way of his romance with another girl higher in the social scale.
