OTAGO CLUB The St. Andrew’s Cross Competition was played on Balmaeewen links on Saturday afternoon, the weather being fine, although a fairly strong northerly wind prevailed. The reduced standard scratch score of 73 was brought into use for the first time, which meant the first hole' was reduced from 5 to 4. With the head wind it was a fair trial, but the majority of the players, who returned cards, managed to win or halve this bole. The senior event was won by S. E. Field with a score of 1 up, and S. C. Sutherland and G. H. Whitcombe with similar scores tied in the junior event. ■ The best scores were:— Seniors.—S. E. Field (4) 1 up, J. 11. M’Dongall (4) all square, C. C. Cox (91 1 down, C. T. Jrvine (5) 2 down. H J. Pollock (5) 2 down; W. G. Wright (2) 3 down, W. S. Stewart (9) 3 down, E. G. M'George (10) 3 down. Juniors.— S. C. Sutherland (11) 1 up, G. H. Whitcombe (11) 1 up, TV. D. GLAIR CLUB The monthly Stroke Handicap held by the St. Clair Club drew a fair entry on Saturday afternoon, when the course was in heavy condition after the recent rain. The 'best net score in the competition was returned by F. D. Stewart, 85—15—70, which won the junior section, W. Clayton winning the senior with 72. Mitson 85—14'—71, J. W. Bain 89— 14 —-75, W. Kindley 91—15—70. BELLEKHOWES CLUB A sealed hole match was played by the ladies of the Belleknowes Club on Saturday, resulting in a win for Miss M‘Lean. Mrs Scott was second, and Mrs Taylor third. WELLINGTON WOMEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP In the final of the Wellington Provincial Women’s Championship at Heretaunga on Saturday Miss Betty Rutherford (North Canterbury) defeated Mrs Duncan Stout (Wellington) 1 up at the nineteenth. The gold was at times brilliant, but neither can be said to have played good, steady golf. Any luck that was going went the way of the ultimate - winner. In fact, the decision of the nineteenth hole was largely influenced by a dead stymie which" Mrs Stout failed to negotiate. Miss Rutherford in the semi-final heat. Miss Barns-Graham, the title holder, also at the nineteenth. Mrs Stout reached the final by dcleating Mrs Pearce (Miramar) 4 and 2.
ST. GLAIR LADIES' CLUB A four-bull bogey will bo played on tbe Corstorphine Links to-morrow. Players to choose partners and arrange lours.
