ANDERSON’S BAY SCHOOL
EX-PUPILS' PUKCTIOMS The seventh anniversary functions in connection with the Anderson’s Buy Public School Ex-pupils’ Association were commenced on Saturday night, when the annual meeting and reunion social were held in the Cameron Hall, The chairman of the executive (Air J. C. H. Somerville) presided. It was explained by the Secretary (Mr H. P. Fowler), who moved the adoption of the annual report and bal-ance-sheet, that there was a credit balance of £l6 7s lOd, of which £lo was in a trust fund for procuring a memorial tablet.
The Chairman seconded the motion, and the report and balance-sheet were adopted. In his remarks the Chairman expressed pleasure at seeing so many present, and referred to the deaths of ex-pupils and residents of the Bay since the last meeting. It was very gratifying to know that so many of the older ex-pupils took such an active interest in the affairs of the association. The executive had decided to invite the Sixth Standard pupils to its reunion functions so that they might become interested in the association and perhaps join the following year. For seven years the association had had an annual reunion—probably _a record for any ex-pupils’ association in Dunedin. The President (Mr W. T. Hildreth, of Wellington) said that although he now lived in the north his heart was always. at Anderson’s Bay. The idea of inviting the Sixth Standard students to the socials was to be commended. To keep the association going for seven years was a wonderful record. It was decided to send a letter of thanks to Mrs 'P. Matthews (nee Rose Davies), who had recently shifted to Hampden, in recognition of her services to the association.
Office-bearers were elected as follow; —President, Mr W. T. Hildreth; chairman of executive, Mr J. C. H. Somerville; committee—Messrs J. S. Somerville, J. R. Jeffery, C. M. Wheeler, Mesdames Wilson, Fulton, Ross, Hixichcliff, Ren free, Misses Begg, Somerville, Munro, Ross, and Cooper; secretary and treasurer, Mr H. P. Fowler; auditor, Mr W. T. Grant. Before supper was served a humorous play by Mrs H. Ross was staged, and items were given by the following:— Misses Bay Stubbs, Maisie Walker, Ngairo Glue, and , the “ Somerville Songsters.” . Miss Marjorie M'Adam was the accompanist. The remainder of the evening was spent in social chat. There was a satisfactory muster of ex-pupils last evening at the service at the Anderson’s Bay Presbyterian Church. The reunion dance is to be held in the school gymnasium to-night.
