RIFLE SHOOTING

KIWI DEFENCE CLUB The Kiwi Defence Rifle Club opened the season on Saturday, when the first shoot in the President’s Match was fired over the 300 and 500 yards ranges. Conditions overhead were all that could be desired, but a “fishtail” wind made shooting very difficult, and good scores were uncommon. The best score off the rifle at 300yds was secured by Rifleman J. Judson with 45, who beat Deputypresident Clayton on the count back. At 500yds Rifleman Bowie was top with a creditable 46, an excellent shoot under difficult conditions. Following are the scores, with the handicaps; — 300 500

DUNEDIN DEFENCE CLUB The Dniuedin Defence Rifle Club shot the final competition for a trophy presented by Mr A. J. Shaw on Saturday afternoon. There was an attendance of fourteen, and ten shots (two optional sighters) each were fired at 300yds anil 500yds. Weather conditions were fine, with good visibility, hut a fishtail breeze from the front was troublesome. At 300yds Rifleman R. Leslie was top with 43, at 500yds Captain A. J. S. Cowie was highest with 45. The clay’s aggregate was headed by Rifleman W. A. Graham with 85. Rifleman R. A. Mackie won the trophy, and also holds the club’s range badge.
