HUGE FEES

SEVEN-YEAR CASE CHICAGO. September 14. What was termed the largest fee ever fixed in this Federal Court district, and probably the largest for the country, has been granted attorneys in the telephone rate case. The sum of £310,300 was set by the United States Court of Appeals as the compensation for the seven years’ labour of counsel who won a refund of £4,140,000 from the Illinois Bell Telephone Company for certain classes of service. Three attorneys, Messrs George I. Haight, Benjamin Goldstein, and Edmond D. Adcock, who represented the city in the action which was carried to the Supreme Court of the United States, will share the huge fee. It will b« materially reduced by Federal income taxes and refund of advances made by the city during prosecution of the litigation.
