ROUTES FOR LORRIES
IMPORTANT POINT RAISED RELAXATION OF RESTRICTIONS CLAIMED [Per United Press Association.] PALMERSTON N., September 27. An important point was heard at the Transport Co-orcunatidn Board’s sitting yesterday, when the Highways Transport Company asked for relaxation of the route restrictions laid down by the No. 6 Licensing Authority within certain city areas for lorries to pick up goods to leave the city, and also for route lorries to drop goods at different points in the city on arrival. The company submitted that tne authority had no power to lay down routes in the cities on the grounds that they were exempted areas. Ft was argued by counsel lor the Wellington and Palmerston North City Councils that the definition of routes was necessary to keep heavy lorries to better class streets; also that if lorries deviated from specified roads in the city they became general carriers, and should take out local licenses as such. The board reserved its decision.
