BAND CONCERT
'The St. Joseph’s Orphanage Band was in excellent form for its performance in the Town Hall Concert Chamber last evening. It was unfortunate that there should have been such unpleasant weather, for the attendance was necessarily affected. Mr D. Whelan has brought his young instrumentalists up to a high pitch, and the audience heard an excellent programme. The band items were in attractive contrast and feceived distinctly creditable treatment, several being works that would test the capacities of any band. The boys played with much spirit and achieved some striking effects. The soloists from the band were E. Redmond and Peter Glen (horn), J. Harnett (cornet), and H. Maloney (euphonium). Mr Eric Williams, the noted trombonist, who is participating in the centenary competitions in Melbourne, was also heard in two delightful solos. Miss Bertha Rawlinsou ami Mr Arthur Macdonald presented vocal solos that were obviously to the fancy of the audience, while Daphne Morrison and Gwen Cox danced very attractively. Miss Kathleen Whelan was accompanist.
