ASSOCIATION’S ANNUAL MEETING Mr W. A- Ilafiills presided over a largo attendance of anglers at the annual meeting and smoke social of the Otago Association in the Embassy Salon last night. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet, which were adopted without discussion, the Chairman expressed the opinion that anglers had taken a keen interest in the affairs of the association during the year. The North Otago Angling Club supplied information regarding the Kakaiuii River, zuid. it was stated that after four years the river had been well stocked with fish. The river was in excellent order, and this should be conducive to a good run of sea tiout to the upper reaches of the stream. \ letter was received from Mr tx. A. Adams, of Lindis Pass, stating that the Lindis River was teeming with fish ot all sizes. The river was free from obstructions. The following office-bearers were elected for the ensuing year:—President Air C. Arnold; vice-presidents— Messrs W. H. Wilson, T. Weir, I'. Monson, J. Ticckie, and F. Mayhew; secretary, Mr R. Wilson; treasurer, Mr 1. Brailey; auditor, Mr C. A. Wilson; committee—Messrs A. Spears, A. Orallands, J. N. M'Gill, M- Leckie, L. Griffiths. J. Spiro, J. Rhodes, J. Malison, S. Raffills, and D. Galvin. Messrs C. Bedford, S. Raffills, and SSinclairo were added to the list ot patrons. „ , . ~ Mr W.' A. Raffills referred to the excellent work carried out by the secretary, ami suggested that the association show its appreciation in a practical
form. —Tho suggestion met with approval, and it was decided to make a grant to Mr Wilson. Seventeen new; members were elected.
Mr S. Barnes, in making an appeal on behalf of anglers, said the association should take steps to oppose any increase being made for fishing licenses,* as was proposed by a conference of acclimatisation societies. —It was decided to forward a telegram of protest to Mr C. A. Wilson, the Otago Acclimatisation Society’s delegate, attending the present conference at Wellington. At the social function which followed the business of the annual meeting the following toasts were honoured: —Otago Acclimatisation Society, proposed by Mr C. Arnold and replied to by Mr J. H. Stewart (president) and Mr S. Barnes, “ Sister Clubs ” (Mr W. Wilson), replied to by the president of the Mosgiel Club (Mr Thompson) and Mr M. Barratt. Reference was made to the loss of a past president in Mr I. Be Beer, and members stood in silence out of respect for the deceased. A letter of goodwill and an expression of best wishes for the fiiture of the association was received from Mr W. M. Finlayson, a very old and energetic members of the Otago Anglers’ Club. Songs and musical items were presented by the following:—Messrs E. Heaney (piano-accordion), R. Tavendale, C. Bragg, A. Parker, B. Fogarty, G. Ansell (songs), E. Murphy (mouth organ solos), C. Abbott (humorous item), and Messrs D. Telfer and A. Stewart (piano and violin duo). Mr Heaney was the accompanist for the evening.
