FAMOUS ‘VANITIES' ON SCREEN

COMING TO REGENT FRIDAY “ The most beautiful girls in the world” versus “glorifying the American girl ” —the battle between these two slogans, the trade mark of tho great impresarios in American musical comedy history, has ended in a draw. For years the fight went on between Earl Carroll (producer of tho ‘ Vanities ') and Florenz Ziegfeld (producer of the ‘ Follies ’) until the death of the latter ended tho fight. But it was n fight while it lasted during the last decade, with each trying to get the most beautiful girls, the funniest comedians, the most expensive designers, the best authors, the hit tunes, for tho shows that made them famous. Ziegfeld was supreme in the theatra when Carroll came along to challenge his reign. In 1923 he produced his first ‘ Vanities.’ Since then there have been ten ‘Vanities,’ starring some of the most important musical comedy actors of thi» generation. To produce his last - ' Vanities ’ Carroll purchased a theatre, entirely rebuilt it in the modern manner—• challenging even the splendour of the beautiful Ziegfeld Theatre, which was erected to house the original production of ‘ The Show Boat.' Now Earl Carroll brings to the screen an example of his work. It Tshis ‘Vanities’ winch naa such a sensationally successful run on Broadway, and which is claimed to be his most spectacular success. ‘ Vanities ’ will be presented at the Regent Theatre on Friday.
