—Ministerial.— The Postmaster-General, Hon A. Hamilton, left the private hospital m Wellington during-the week-end, and expects to leave for the south this week. He intends to break his journey at Oamaru for a few days. ; He has made very good progress since his operation, but it will be some time yet before he will be able to resume his Ministerial duties. The Hon. F. Waite passed through Dunedin by the mail train to-day, bound for Wellington. Mr D. M'DougaH, M.P., came from Mataura this morning, and went on for Wellington. Mr James R. Simpson was a passenger for Wellington by the 11.35 train to-day. Mr G. W, Reid, proceeding north this morning, will be in Wellington tomorrow for a meeting of the Railways Board. I Mr A. R. Lambert left for Wellington by the 11.35 train to-day. Mr and Mrs J. B. Shacklock started this morning on a visit to Auckland. Mr Eric Begg, called to Wellington on business; left by the express this morning. Captain E. V. Sanderson, president of tbe New ■ Zealand Native Bird Protection Society, arrived in Dunedin yesterday, and leaves again for the north to-morrow. Dr S, T. Martin, who has been house surgeon at the Batchelor Hospital for two years, is returning to Auckland, and left Dunedin to-day by train. The Rev. Tulloch Yuille, who was minister of Knox Church for some years, is to be inducted on Thursday as the minister of Queen Street Church, Edinburgh, in the heart of the city. Miss Mary Pratt, the well-known Dunedin contralto, has returned to Dunedin after an extended visit to Australia. Miss Pratt enjoyed a remarkable popularity in the Commonwealth,and fulfilled many important concert and radio engagements in the various centres. Unfortunately an indisposition necessitated her cancelling her tour and returning home, but her many, friends will be delighted to learn that she has now regained her health. Miss Pratt will ■ possibly revisit Australia later.
Staff-captain R. Pike, of the New Zealand headquarters staff of the Legion of Frontiersmen (New Plymouth)] arrived this afternoon from the north. He will meet members of R Squadron of the Legion (Dunedin City) at the troop to-night. At a meeting of directors of the Mosgiel Woollen Factory Company Ltd., held to-day, Mr J. S. Hislop was appointed to fill the position of chairman rendered vacant by the death of Sir John Roberts. The vacancy on the boafd was filled by the appointment of Mr James A. Roberts, son of the late Sir John. With, due formality and before a large and representative gathering of i the legal profession at Wellington yesterday, the Solicitor-general (Mr H. H. Cornish) took the declaration pertaining to King’s Counsel. There were five judges oh the bench—the Chief justice (Sir Michael Myers) ? Mr Justice Herdman, Mr Justice Blair, Mr Justice Kennedy, and Mr Justice Fair. A tribute to the memory of Sir John Roberts was paid at last night’s meeting of the Chamber of Commerce, the president (Mr C. B. Barrowclough), moving the following resolution-:; “'This charhber places on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered by the late Sir John Roberts to the city and province. These services have been fittingly acknowledged elsewhere. Sir John was the second president of this chamber, which he joined in 1878. During hi# membership # ol over half a century the chamber had the benefit of his sound experience and advice. In appointing him one of its few life-members in 1928 the chamber not only acknowledged his valuable assistance to the commercial community, but also did honour to itself. Sir John has left behind him a unique record of public service, and his name will ever be held in honour.” The motion was passed in silence, the members stand, ing as a mark of respect to the relatives, ■ ■ , _ The Mosgiel Woollen Factory Company Ltd., at a meeting of directors this morning, passed a resolution expressing sympathy with the family and relatives of the late Sir John Roberts, also appreciation of his valuable services to the company as chairman since its inception in 1873- ■ Grand Hotel guests Mr J- A.
