NO. 2 DISTRICT ACTIVITIES ’A general meeting pf the No. 2 District Workers’ Self Help Association was held in the district depot, St. Andrew street, on Monday, the chairman (Mr W. H. Patrick), presiding over a fair attendance of members. It was decided to advise citizens that the employment bureau, with a list of reliable men of all trades waiting to be called to any job that might offer, was open. A few men have been placed in casual work. Inquiries from persons requiring the services of men for small jobs would receive prompt attention if sent to Mr L. A. Walker, organiser, district depot, or to the secretary (Mr A. E. Allen), phone 11-533. A social committee was formed to run the dances, which are held every Saturday in the Normal School Hall, Cumberland street. It was reported that in the near future a dance would be held on a Wednesday night, the proceeds to be handed to Uncle Ben for Ills fund in connection with the children in hospital. Within a week or so a waltzing competition would be started. One of the prizes was now to hand, and this would be on view at the dance to-morrow. A splendid floor and music by a firstclass band should help to make the dance a success. There is to be a special night on Labour Day. The winners or last Saturday’s Monte Carlo number were: Miss Drinnan and Mr Winton. The statue dance was won by Miss J. Cottle and Mr C. Godcny.
