EPIC CIRCUS ROMANCE

■ RED WAGON ’ BREAKS KCGRBS During its triumphant season at the Regal Cinema, Marble Arch, London, ‘ Red .Wagon,’ the pictunsation of Lady Eleainor Smith’s epic circua romance (coming to the Regent on Friday), not only beat every record established by any .British film at that theatre, but drew larger crowds and earned considerably higher cash receipts than some of the most, outstanding American films ever pre-re-leased there. George Arliss is a special favourite with regular Regal audiences, but ‘ Red Wagon ’ beat by a good, margin both his successful _ pictures, ‘ Working Man ’ and ‘ King’s Vacation.’. It also broke the record established by the Katharine HepburnJohn Barrymore picture,.;* Bill of. Divorcement,’ which did sensational business at the time, and * East Lynne/ another big winner shown, at the Regal, was also beaten easily. Taking into consideration the counter-attrac-tions of-Christmas shopping, then in full swing, and domestic preparations for the Christmas festivities, the results achieved by ‘Red Wagon’ far surpass even the high optimism of the producers. , . The fact that H.R.H. The Prince of Wales attended the' opening of ‘ Red Wagon,’.. and the popularity in society circles of Lady Eleanor Smith, doubtless added ,to the interest which the film created throughout the West End, while the unanimous Press praise of the exciting tiger attack, upon Zara, played so beautifully by Greta Nissen, and the tough fights involving Charles Bickford, brought' along the masses of . regular film-go-ers who'love action pictures showing life in the raw. Adding still more to the crowds, juveniles iu large numbers were taken to see the film, because ‘Red Wagon:’"combines air the fun of the circus, so ■ habitually .delightful to the youngsters, with the periodical visit to the movies, providing two shows itt one.
