Miss Edna Glreenslade left to-day on a visit to Sydney. D.I.C. Ball. The ball arranged by the D.I.C. staff and held in the Concert Chamber on Monday evening, was a great success. It is many years since this firm lias given such a ball, and this new venture was accorded every encouragement. Palms and tree ferns figured largely in the decorations and a cosy lounge, with comfortable sofas and chairs was arranged at the end of the room. The guests were received by Miss Moira O’Halloran, who wore a most becoming frock of white satin and tulle, with a short train of rucked tulle. She was assisted by Mr A. Ryan. A charming interlude during the evening was the dancing of' an. all-gold ballot by the pupils of Miss Noen, this being most enthusiastically received, and had to he repeated. A very successful “At Home,’' at which over 250 guests were present, was held to inaugurate the reunion at present being held for tho Home Science Alumna. Professor Strong, in her opening remarks, referred to the loss incurred by the deaths of Colonel John Studholme, Sir Thomsa Sidey, Mr J. Rennie, and Mr J. C. Stephens. Continuing, she spoke appreciatively of the_ great work done by Professor Boys-Smith and Mrs Benson in the development of the department through which, in twentythree years, 312 students had graduated, while altogether 487 students bad attended classes. In the absence of the Chancellor of the University, the Vice-chancellor (Mr Deans Ritchie) spoke to those present and extended a welcome to the delegates on behalf of the University. Then followed an address by Dr Elizabeth Gregory,: president of the Alummo Association, who expressed her pleasure at the remarkable response to the invitation given to attend the conference, Special mention was made to the fact that Dr Ada Paterson, director of school hygiene, Wellington, had made a special trip from Wellington to be present and to address the delegates during the conference. Greetings were then read from Professor Boys-Smith, Mrs Noel Benson, and Miss Blackmore, of Christchurch. References wore made to the various aspects of the work and the aims of the conference, where she hoped much constructive work would be achieved. Miss Maureen Frengley, of the Lady Irwin All-India College for Women, New Delhi, at present on furlough, gave an interesting account of her work as instructress in home science there. Miss Nancy Hobson and Alisa Alice Wilson rendered musical items. A delicious afternoon tea, the work of the members of the Home Science staff, was served, and a pleasant hour spent in renewing old friendships.
