ETON JACKETS
WHAT A BOY THINKS OF THEM Eton jackets are in great disfavour. Public schools’ head masters declare that they are a rare thing to-day. It is even covertly suggested that Eton itself may abolish the abbreviated garment (savs a London'exchange). The example of the head master of Repton in banning the jacket is welcomed by other head masters, some of whom have nothing good to say about it. , School outfitters say that there is small call for the , garment that parents do not like it, and boys do not like it. , , Mr A. R. Wallace, head master of Sherborne, said to a reporter: “ It is a very good thing that the head master of Repton has done away with the jacket. It exposes the kidneys and the liver—it is not good from the health point of view—and it is nob good even to look at. The Eton jacket was not allowed at Blundell s, which I left recently.” Most Eton boys regard the jacket as much part of the school dress as the coloured waistcoat and the silk hat. One, however, said to a reporter, that it made him feel only half dresesd. “It is not really comfortable, and until you have worn one for some time you are self-conscious about the appearance. Mother says that it looks smart for small boys, but 1 am not so sure.”
“ Eton jackets are a part of flic school,” said another hoy, “ and they are neat and comfortable to wear. 1 feel I look slovenly in an ordinary jacket after wearing an Eton jacket.—
