TRAINING AT AWAPUNI (Per United Press Association.] PALMERSTON NORTH, July 27. The weather was fine for operations at Awapum this morning. The majority of the candidates restricted their work to short sprints on the No. 2 grass. The tracks are firming up nicely and the indications are that they will be in excellent order to-morrow. Lord Moutoa ran an easy three furlongs in 44 2-ssec; Ebeum ran five in Imm 8 4-ssec. Good Hunting strode over a round, the last three furlongs in 41sec. Haparahara, with a light-weight up, slipped over three furlongs in 41 3-ssec; Flaxen did sis furlongs at a steady pace, coming from the three-furlongs post in 42 2-ssec. Boudoir_ ran six furlongs in Imin 23 4-5, leaving the first three behind in 41 4-ssec. Amyril registered an attractive performance, beating Rereatu by a couple of lengths at the close of five furlongs in Imm 5 4-ssec. Bacchus Marsh ran five furlongs in Imin 12 4-ssec after taking 29 2-ssec for the first two. Inveresk was half a length in front of Tommy Atkins at the close of six furlongs, the last three run in 43 4-ssec. Calydon strode out nicely over a round, running the last three furlongs comfortably in 44sec. King Thomond was well clear of Rangitumau after running, the last three furlongs in 4Ssec. Peter’s Pence ran three furlongs in 41 3-ssec, shaping attractively. The big fences were in position on the course proper, Riotous negotiating a round alone satisfactorily. Storm Wind and Rauhihi set out over a Connie of rounds. The former set the pace. ■Rauhihi ran off at the second stand double and fell three fences later. He was remounted and completed the task.
