Mr A. G. Hill,- wise has been in charge of the Dunedin office of the Tourist Bureau since the_ transfer to Christchurch of Mr R. W. Coupland, is notified of his promotion to the Auckland office, and will leave to-morrow. The public have found Mr Hill to be an obliging officer, ready to answer all sorts of questions and competent to advise when asked. He served the department first in Wellington, then at Waitomo, afterwards at Rotorua, and be came to Dunedin five years ago. Recently during the absence of Mr Sheed in Wellington, Mr Hill has also acted as district officer in the Industries - and Commerce Department. Pending a permanent appointment to the Dunedin vacancy, Mr W. A. Kilner will be in charge here. Commissioner Cunningham, territorial ( commander of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, is being transferred to South Africa, and will leave on July 14 by the_ Ruahine for London to attend a meeting of the High Council which is to elect a new world commander. From London Commissioner Cunningham will proceed to South Africa. At the Christchurch Competitions Festival on Friday night Miss Daphne Morrison (Dunedin) secured first place iu the character dance (ten years and under thirteen) , and the performance of Miss Joyce Rowley (Dunedin) in the same event was higWy commended. Mr Fred Taplin (Dunec\in) gained second place in the operatic solo, and Miss Margaret Hawden (Port Chalmers) was second- in the English song 'for contralto voices. ‘ Mr W. H. Stevens, managing director of the Q-tol-Fluenzol Laboratories, left on Friday last by the Monowai for Sydney on a business trip. Miss T. M‘Dougall, of the Technical High School, Greymouth, who was in Dunedin for the term holidays, left for Greymouth last evening. A Christchurch Press Association telegram records the death of Mr David Francis Coulter, aged forty-nine, prominent in swimming circles and vicechairman. of the New Zealand Council last year. He had represented Canterbury at swimming and water polo. Bishop Richards arrived in Dunedin, on Saturday evening, and a presentation will be made to him in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall to-night. Registered at the Grand Hotel are Mr A. Hedley Williams (London), Sir Cecil Leys, and Mr M. P, Lysnar (Auckland), Messrs' W. Hughes and E. L, ; Mead (Wellington), and Mr AbbeyJones (Invercargill). Latest arrivals at the City Hotel are Mr T. B. Marsden (Steaford, Lincolnshire), Mr R. H. Cleaver (Taihape), Mr A. Thompson (Wellington), Mr B. O. Stennett (Christchurch), Mr and Mrs H. F. Maude and Miss C. Maude, Messrs L. Ludman, M. Mowat, A. Wilson, and A. Macdonald (Oamaru), Mrs S. Lawrence (Malkarewa), and Miss Hanning (Hedgehope).
