J The Loyal Centenary Lodge met in * the Wesley Hall, South Dunedin, N.G. 1 Bro. Hebbard presiding over a fair ' muster of members. Visiting brethren 1 were welcomed. One candidate was initiated, and the transfer of one mem- ' ber outward approved. A report of ‘ the proceedings at the recent half- ‘ yearly meeting of the U.F.S. Dispen- i sary was given by P.G. Bro. J. Board- I man, who represented the lodge. The board this year recommended the payment to branches of 5 per cent., ns against no dividend last year, the income from the dispensary showing a slight increase over the previous year. Mr J. W. Dove was elected president and Mr D. M. Miller vice-president. , The levy was fixed at the rate of (is per member per annum. A vote ot thanks was extended to the delegate lor his report. The Loyal Dunedin Lodge extended an invitation to its annivci- ‘ sary dance. M. ( Isaac; tyler, Bro. J. Roberts. Eight j candidates were initiated. A visitor , from the newly-formed Past Grands’ i Lodge in Oamaru, Bro. Hesselyn, was ( welcomed by the chairman. An apology ( was received from an old member of | the lodge, P.G. Bro. A. Cable, and re- . gret was expressed at Ids indisposition. With the idea of improving the stnn- j (lard of installations the officers had prepared lecturettes on tho* addresses , to newly-installed officers, and after . the reading of these members wore invited to express opinions on the sub- t jects. All present took part in the discussion, the opinion being expressed that the lecturettes should Ire ol benefit to those officers taking part in installations. Tho matter of conferring degrees at the various lodges was also discussed. It was resolved to meet monthly during the winter mouths. " 'The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Gnversham Lodge was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall, Forbnry Corner. N.G. J. Stevenson presided, and there

was a good muster of'members. One i candidate was initiated, The syllabus i was “ ladies’ evening,” and later the . meeting adjourned to hold, a dance. ! Over fifty couples were present. The < music was supplied by Veitch’s Or- . chestra, and P.G. Bro. J. Miller offi- i ciated as M.C. The forttiightly meeting of the Loyal Albion Lodge attracted a fair niuster i of members, N.G. Bro. C. Varcoe pre- i siding. The secretary of the Loyal ] Albion J uvenlle Lodge wrote extend- 1 ing an invitation to officers and mem- i hers to attend the half-yearly installation of officers, and also asked for support of adult brethren in the juvenile membership campaign. The lodge rep- < resentatives of the M.U. Ball Commit- f tee reported that the committee had . decided to revert to the annual ball, which proved so popular a feature of ( fonneV years. Tho N.G. reported rep- ] resenting the lodge at the official visit j to Waikaka. It was decided to in- j cite the Past Grands Lodge to conduct j a degree meeting next lodge night. A successful 1 unction was held at Waikaka, when members of the M.XJ.T.0.0.F. made an official visit to the Loyal Waikaka Lodge. At the recent half-yearly district meeting, an application to hold the next district , meeting at Waikaka was received from , the Waikaka Lodge, but it was felt f that the difficulties of accommodation \ for the large number of delegates could , not he overcome, and members decided j on Oamaru as the venue for the meet- , ing. However, an effort was made to arrange a visit to the Waikaka Lodge from the city lodges, and as a result , of arrangements made by the district organiser (P.G. Bro. A. Cameron) some ■ thirty city members. journeyed by bus and car to Waikaka on Saturday, May 1 12. Most of the city lodges wore represented, while the P.G.M. (Bro. A. Hart) and P.D.G.M. (Bro. J. D. Cameron) were also present. There were also present .many members from the Tapamii, Mount Wendon (Waikaia), and Dalton (Balcluthn) Lodges. On arrival at Waikaka the visitors partook of tea. which had been arranged by the secretary of thp local lodge. An enthusiastic meeting of tho lodge was held at 8 o'clock-, with a good attend ance of tlie local members. Following the meeting the visitors were enter taiued at a .smoko social. Permanent Secretary Uro. Kelly acting as toast master." In welcoming the- visiting i brethren. Bro. .Kelly stated that this | Was the largest gathering of Oddfellow's

ever held at AVaikaka. The following toasts were honoured The District Executive ” (proposed by Permanent Secretary Bro. Arnold, Tapanui), the district officers responding; “ The Loyal AVaikaka Lodge ” (proposed by the P.G.M.), the N.G. and P.G. Bro. Burn's responding; “The Visitors,” by the N.G., representatives of visiting lodges acknowledging the toast. P.P.G.M. Bro. A. Lawry proposed the toast of “ The Faithful Few,” the following old members responding:—P.G. Bro. P. Thomson (Hand and Heart), Bro. J. Moffatt (Mount AA r ehdon), and Bro. Hamilton An enjoyable evening was spent, acceptable items by Bros, Russell, Dawson, Edgar, G. Macdonald, Armstrong, Robb, M‘Pate, and Kelly contributing to the success of the gathering. Owing to its isolation, the AVaikaka Lodge has had few opportunities for visits from the city lodges, and the recent function should be of much benefit to the lodge. The Loyal Tnapeka Pioneer Lodge held its fortnightly meeting in the Town Hall,, Lawrence, when there was a good attendance of members. A letter’ from the Loyal Queen of Otago Lodge conveyed congratulations to the lodge on winning the Initiation Shield Tor the southern area. Nominations for officers wore opened, the half-yearly election and installation to be held on June 12. For sixty years the lodge has met in the Town Hall, but will shortly have to vacate this hall, as the hall is to be demolished to make way for a new Town Hall. Mention was made of the good relations which had ahvavs existed between the council and the lodge during its long tenancy.
