BIG EXPENDITURE IN BRITAIN NATIONAL COMMITTEE'S REPORT (British Official Wireless.) Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY, May 17. A scheme involving tho expenditure of £400,000,000 for the provision of 1,000,000 houses at annual rentals not exceeding 10s a week is recommended in an interim report by the_ National Housing Committee, of which Lord Amulree is chairman. The creation, under the Ministry of _ Health, of a national housing commission is proposed, with power to raise money_ to finance housing programmes, in particular by the issue of national housing stock. ’ Local authorities or public utility societies would own and manage the houses. It is recommended' also that one of the duties of the commission should be to stimulate the formation of these societies and the creation of a central council to exercise general control over the societies.
