RESPONSIBILITY OF MANUFACTURERS
“ Whatever is needed, the onus lies with the representatives of manufacturing interests in Britain to know what is happening, to see the implications of tho position, and to act courageously and intelligently to ensure that both those who are actual and potential workers in tho industrial system shall have their needs provided for, and that the maximum output of our factories shall be maintained up to the limit of real demand. No longer can we afford to have industry conducted as a conglomeration of units each seeking their selfish advantage and creating chaos. We have arrived at a time when production of units has so increased that for their own safety, manufacturers must collaborate, and for their own progress must attend not only to their own output capacity, but also make sure that the consuming capacity of the people of the country is not strangled and handicapped by tho absurd condition that they shall obtain money to buy by finding work which is not obtainable because they cannot buy,” Mr T. H. .Redfern, chairman. Manchester branch, National TJnion of’ Manufacturers.
