BOWLERS' GATHERING

ADESS SHIELD PRESEHTED 1 There was a large attendance of members of the Balmacewen Bowling Club and visitors at the club pavilion when the Adess Shield was presented to the club. Mr J. Melville (president) was in the chair. The shield and certificate were presented to the club by Mr\E. T, G. Falconer,- president of the Dunedin Bowling Centre, who congratulated the club on its success. Mr Melville, on behalf of the club, accepted the shield and certificate. The toast of “ The Adess Shield Rink ” was proposed by Mr F. Lambeth and responded to by Mr T. Ferguson. Other toasts honoured were “ The Runners-up,” proposed by Mr A. W. Stables and responded to by Mr Adess, skip of the St. Kilda- rink; “ New Zealand Bowling Association and Dunedin Bowling Centre,” proposed by Mr D. Leslie and responded to by Mr H. Rowley, president of the association, and Mr Falconer; “ Our Visitors,” proposed by Mr 0, Balk and responded to by Mr Gascoigne ; and “ The Entertainers,” proposed by Mr J. Harraway. During the evening items were contributed by Messrs H. Bain (elocution) . J. E. Davies, W. Race, J. Montague, and F. Jones (songs), while an enjoyable community sing, controlled by Mr Morrison, was also held.
