AUSTRALIAN CRICKETERS
ANOTHER ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTION Pros* Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. LONDON, April 30. (Received May 1, at 11.15 a.in.) Six hundred members of the British Sportsmen’s Club crowded the Savoy Hotel, and gave the. Australian cricketers a most cheery reception. Notables of all sports and all eras mingled, including the cx-England captains Gilligan, Jackson, Chapman, and Warner; while such figures as Fry, Fender, W. W. Wakefield, Freyberg (New Zealander), and Lords Derby and Lonsdale were among the hosts. Lord Hailsham said he hoped the last lingering doubt about the cricketers’ welcome was now dispelled. If England lost the ashes it would not bo regarded as a national calamity. Woodfuil denied that any member of the team at any time had the slightest doubt about the rc< -ption in England. Tbc welcomes since they landed had shown that that confidence was justified.
