MAGISTRATE'S COURT

TUESDAY, MAY 1. Before Mr J. R. Bartholomew, S.M. DEFAULT CASES. Judgment, with costs, was given for plaintiffs in the following cases;— Priscilla Ann Marett and Susan Maud Mary Marett v. Joseph Hill, £23 18s 6<i, rent due; J. Allan v. A. Brown, £5 9s 6d, goods supplied. ' POSSESSION OF FURNITURE. The Court was occupied with tha hearing of a claim by Alice Budge against David Budge for possession of certain articles of furniture, valued at £sl 10s, and for £5 as damages. Mr J. P. Ward appeared for tha plaintiff, and defendant was represented by Mr C. J. L. White. In the statement of claim plaintiff set out that she was the owner of certain chattels, valued at £sl 10s, and that on or about March 15 while she was an inmate of the Dunedin Publio Hospital defendant removed the articles from his home at Moreau street, St. Hilda. She had demanded possession of the articles, and defendant had failed to comply with the demand. Plaintiff claimed'for possession of thesa articles and also £5 as damages. Mr'Ward said that the claim was by a wife against her husband for possession of certain articles of furniture which were stored in some place under his control. It was unfortunate that the happy married life of the. parties in the case had come to an end. The goods in question were those plaintiff owned before her marriage, those given to her as wedding presents, or by her mother. ' ,’hile the plaintiff was absent in hospital the defendant had cleared everything out of the house and let it. Evidence was heard in support of the plaintiff’s claim, and the Court adjourned until the afternoon.
