(0.48 a.m.), 432 tons, M'Arthur, for Port Waikato via ports. COASTWISE MOVEMENTS. Holmglen arrived yesterday and sailed early this morning for Port AVaikato via ports. Breeze arrived about midday from Lyttelton, and is to sail to-night for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Wanganui, and New Plymouth via ports. Storm is duo at Port Chalmers from Wanganui on Friday to discharge a full cargo of coal for the Hertford. Sho will then come to Dunedin to load and sail for Timarn, Lyttelton, AVellingtou, Picton, and AA’angamii. I’oolta is due to-morrow morning from Wellington to load and sail on the same day for Oamarn, Timaru, Lyttelton, Napier, and Gisborne. Opihi is to leave AArellington to-mor-row for Dunedin direct. She will load on Friday for Nelson and New Plymouth via ports. Wingatui is to leave Auckland on Friday for AA r ellington, Lyttelton, and Dunedin. Port AVhangarei is due from Auckland on Thursday. She will sail the same day for Tauranga, Auckland, and AVhangarei via ports. Holmclale is due from AA r ellington on Friday, and is to sail the same day for AVanganui via ports. Parera is due on Tuesday from AVellington via Bluff.. She is to sail the same day for Timaru, Lyttelton, AA’ellington, Nelson. AA'anganni, New Plymouth, and Port AA r aikato. INTERISLAND SERVICE. The inlerisland express steamer Rangatira reached Lyttelton from Wellington at 6.55 a.m. to-day. Passengers and mail for the south connected with the express. ANTONIO’S SHORT STAY. The steamer Antonio arrived at Dunedin this morning from Liverpool (Nova Scotia) via northern ports. After discharging a quantity of newsprint she was to sail this afternoon for Bluff to complete discharge.

AVAINUI FOR MELBOURNE. The AVaiimi arrived from Melbourne via Bluff this morning and sailed in the afternoon for Lyttelton and AAellmgton. HAURAKI AAV AY. The Hauraki sailed this afternoon for Melbourne and Sydney to complete discharging Pacific Coast cargo. She will later proceed to A’anconver via Suva, Apia, and Papeete. CAMBRIDGE FROM LIVER POOL. The Federal Company has received cabled advice that the Cambridge, eu route from Liverpool to Auckland, Wellington. Lyttelton, and Dunedin, reached Colon on April 24. She is due at Auckland on May 17. OLDEST BRITISH SHIPOAVNER. Mir A. AA 7 . Bibby, bead of the shipping line of that name, who recently attained his eighty-eighth year, is probably the oldest active British shipowner alive. The description is not an idle one, for Mr Bibby still attends his office daily, and is in full charge of the ■ business. Mauv public offices have been held by him, notably the chairmanship of the Liverpool Steam Ship Owners’ Association and of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board, on which he was the nominee of the training ship Indefatigable, and unobtrusively accomplished. BUSY DAY AT TIMARU. Saturday last was an extremely busy day at the port of.*Timaru for overseas steamers. Four arrived, and one departed. The arrivals were the Antonio from Lyttelton, the Canadian Highlander from Dunedin, the Tnrakina from Oamaru, and the Fordsdalo from Glasgow. The departure was the Canadian Highlander for Lyttelton. The actiiig-havbonvmaster, Captain H. 0. AA'hite, who piloted all the steamers, took the Canadian Highlander out of port at 5 p.m., and brought in the Turakina at 6 o’clock, afterwards bringing in the Fordsdale about 7.30. The Fordsdale is the first overseas vessel to enter port after dark for about twenty years. The Fordsdale. a Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner, arrived from Glasgow via Curacao and fbe Panama Canal. The vessel, which is at Timaru for loading only, was to leave to-day for Bluff, and will subsequently call at Gisborne, Napier, and AArellington, taking her departure for London via Panama on May 17. STEAMER RENAMED. The Union Company’s steamer Katoa, which has been sold to Holier and Company, Shanghai, aiid which is now in Wellington prior to leaving for British North Borneo,, has been renamed the Winifred Moller. Several other Union Company ships have been sold to Moller and Company after lengthy service in New Zealand waters. The Karori, disposed of in July, 1928, has been named the Katie Moller, the Kauri, sold in November, 1928, the Minnie Moller, and the Kurow, sold last year, the Mabel Moller. It is not known definitely when the AVinifred Moller will leave Wellington, but her departure will not be until next week at the earliest. THE FIRST COPTIC. Fifty years ago the AA 7 hite Star liner Coptic arrived at Liverpool after completing her first charter to the Occidental and Oriental Line for the transpacific service. Following alterations, she was placed on the United King-dom-New Zealand run; then, in 1894, after being rehoilered, she went back again to the Oriental and Occidental service between Hongkong and San Francisco. In 1906 she was transferred to the Persia Steamship Company, a British Hag subsidiary of the Pacific Mail Line, and was renamed Persia for further service in the Pacific. Japanese owners subsequently named her Persia Main, and after trading between Japan and the East Indies she. was finally laid up in 1924, being scrapped the following year. Built in 1881 by Messrs Harland and AA r olff, the Coptic was a long-distance adaptation of their Atlantic design, and ran a few trips to New York. The present-day Shaw, Savill, and Albion liner Coptic was built in 1928 by Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson. She is a vessel of 8,281 tons gross, and is engaged in the United Kingdom-New Zealand service. VESSELS IN AVIRELESS CALL.
